Direct Support & Sandbox Manager, Innovate, Strategy & CompetitionThe salary range will be approximately 65,000 GBP to 85,000 GBP plus a competitive benefits package and non-contributory pension.

We oversee conduct across the full span of the financial sector from global investment banks to high street payday lenders

The Innovate Department within the Strategy & Competition Division of the FCA has a busy forward agenda. The Department seeks to encourage innovative, competition and new entrants to the market. This is a priority for the FCA and our approach is cited as world class, having been emulated by other financial services regulators.

There are three teams in the Innovate Department. Together these teams are responsible for leading on the FCA's work in relation to:
  • Understanding market developments in financial technology (fintech) and devising pro-innovation regulatory approach
  • Clarifying regulatory expectations direct to innovative businesses
  • Providing a test environment ('Regulatory Sandbox') for the most innovative of businesses
  • Provide regulatory feedback to firms looking to provide automated advice in the investment, mortgages, debt advice and general insurance
  • Delivering an international and regional engagement programme to support the development of fintech in the interests of financial services users
We are looking for two talented Managers to work with the newly-appointed Head of Department (HoD) and Technical HoD to lead the Innovate Department.

What does this job involve?The key responsibilities of the post holder will be:
  • Leading the design and implementation of the next iteration of the Regulatory Sandbox
  • Oversight of our direct support to innovative businesses, ensuring appropriate regulatory feedback is provided and the team meets its performance targets and service standard.
  • Ensuring risks are identified and mitigated and management information is of reliable quality
  • Providing technical advice to FCA senior management and colleagues across divisions, such as Policy, Authorisations and Supervision
  • Representing the FCA with senior external stakeholders, particularly industry bodies and innovative businesses
  • Recruiting, motivating, and developing staff

  • Significant experience of financial services regulation, either through direct experience at a regulator or through a compliance function in a regulated or professional services firm
  • People management skills
  • lead a team and to support and assist others. This includes energising and inspiring team members and being self-aware to adjust your approach as the situation demands
  • lead projects across a large complex organisation in order to engineer practical outcomes
  • deliver results in a high profile environment against service standards and performance targets, where there is significant media and government interest
  • identify and manage key stakeholders, building rapport and constructive relationships, and be a credible representative for the FCA
  • resolve problems through re-prioritisation and resource allocation
  • Direct experience of working on fintech regulation
